At the University of British Columbia, I took numerous science classes, including:
astronomy (see my textbook above),
physics (geophysics, thermodynamics, etc.),
calculus (up to differential equations ,
geography (climatology, synoptic meteorology, hydrology, micrometeorology, etc.),
computer science (coding back before they called it coding),
and biology across disciplines (biological foundations of language, brain & behavior, etc.).
So I'm not just writing science for kids because it's a niche to fill; I actually have a deep-seated, lifelong love for science and have studied various branches both formally and as an autodidact for fun. I want to share and foster this deep love with kids, taking them beyond the superficial "fun facts" knowledge to a gut-level appreciation.

Top-secret info about me, shared only with you and the 6 other people who read this far:
1) My husband won the space argument and I no longer have a 4-harness loom. So if I still want magic carpets (or towels), I will have to knit or crochet them instead...unless I can sneak a tabletop/lap loom by him.
2) I once wanted to be an opera singer for a hot minute (or a hot 2 years).
3) In 1987, I was offered both a job with Environment Canada and a sponsorship for the Miss Hong Kong pageant. I didn't take either, and I don't know which I regret more.
4) My husband has far more clothes and shoes than I do, like maybe 4-5 times as many!
5) I appeared on television (as an audience member) when I was 5 years old.
6) I've been an amateur astronomer for 44 years; my first ever magazine subscription was to Astronomy magazine in 1980.
